It’s very common for us to need for clients to provide us with copies of their documents. These can include a copy of a court paper they’ve received, an agreement they have signed, and documents they are required to produce in the discovery process.
We prefer the clients provide documents to us already in the Adobe PDF format. Frequently, and especially at the beginning of the case, the client needs to send us a copy of the court paper that they received. It’s very common for clients to use their cell phone to take photographs of each page in JPG format and send us an e-mail with multiple JPG images attached to it.
Once we receive an email like that, paralegal time has to be devoted to combining and converting the JPG images to PDF format. To avoid this step, we ask clients to use the free AdobeScan app instead. The app will take care of both steps so that when we receive the PDF file, no further processing is needed on our end. It is available in both Apple and Android formats.
